Why Homes Are Feeling More Colourful Again in 2026

Over the last few years, interiors have slowly been moving away from stark minimalism and back toward spaces that feel layered, warm, and personal. In 2026 especially, there’s been a noticeable shift toward homes with more colour, texture, and individuality — spaces that feel lived in rather than styled purely for trends. Designers are predicting continued growth in statement wall art, biophilic interiors, textured contemporary art, and pieces that feel expressive and human-made. One of the biggest trends emerging this year is the return of artwork that feels tactile and emotionally connected. Textured brushwork, layered colour, visible imperfections, native botanicals, wildlife-inspired pieces, and oversized statement prints are replacing colder, flatter styles. I think part of this shift comes from how digital everything has become. With sterile, algorithm-driven AI imagery now everywhere, I’ve noticed more people craving artwork that feels genuinely human. Pieces with texture, personality, imperfections, and an actual story behind them. Interestingly, a lot of 2026 design reporting is noticing the same thing - audiences are becoming more drawn to authenticity, hand-crafted work, and art that feels emotionally resonant rather than overly perfect.

It’s actually been really comforting to see that happen at markets lately. While I mainly sell prints at the moment, I’ve noticed more conversations around original pieces too, and a growing appreciation for the time, layering, and process behind handmade art. I’m slowly creating more original works alongside my print collections, which has been both exciting and a little surreal.

Some things I hear often from people looking for wall art is:
“I love art, but I don't know how to choose” or “I'm not ready to commit to an original painting yet, but I still want meaningful wall art."

Honestly, that hesitation is very normal. Art can feel personal, and it’s hard to picture how a piece will actually live in your space. That’s partly why I love offering prints - they’re a more affordable and flexible way to bring colour and personality into a home without the pressure of committing to an original immediately. A framed print can completely shift the feeling of a room, especially when paired with natural textures like oak, linen, warm timber, and soft neutral interiors.

Most of my work is inspired by Australian birds, native flowers, rolling landscapes, and dramatic colour-filled skies. I’m always drawn to the feeling of nature being slightly exaggerated - brighter colours, abstract splashes, oversized blooms, layered textures. Pieces that feel joyful and calming at the same time. Whether it’s a rainbow lorikeet surrounded by native flowers or a painting inspired by the beautiful Australian landscape, my hope is simply that the work brings warmth and personality into a space, and feels easy to connect with over time.
